Anıtkabir is the mausoleum of the leader of the Turkish War of Independence, leader of Turkish reforms, and the first President of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Anıtkabir is located in Ankara on the hill of Anıttepe (monument hill), which was named Rasattepe (sight hill) before. Anıtkabir also houses the fourth president, Cemal Gürsel, who buried in the section of revolution martyrs in 1966. However, in 27 August of 1988, his body transferred to another cemetery because of the 6 November 1981 dated State Cemetery Law 1st article, section 2. Since 1973, the grave of İsmet İnönü also lays in Anıtkabir.

A 262 meter walkway was constructed to prepare the visitors before they pay their respect to Atatürk. On the sides of this walkway, there are 24 lion sculpture in sitting position which represents 24 Oghuz Clans. These sculptures lined up in pairs which symbolizes the unity and solidarity of the Turkish nation. Because Atatürk put great importance to the history of the Anatolia and Turks, these lion sculptures were sculptured in the style of Hittite art style. These sculptures signifies the strength and tranquility. The walkway is floored with travertine rocks. At the end of the walk way, Turkish flag and Çankaya can be seen.
