Kocatepe (Great Hill) is a 1,874 meter altitude hill where the Great Charge of the Independence of Anatolia and Turkish Nation started in August 26th of 1922 later dispatched and managed by the commands of Commander-in-chief Mustafa Kemal.

Commander-in-chief Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his friends arrived to Kocatepe in the evening of the 25 August 1922, and started the Great Charge in the morning of 26 August 1922 here. Atatürk dispatched and managed the first phase of the Great March from the quarters installed here, and the trench, which still exists this day. Commander-in-chief left Kocatepe at noon of the 27 August 1922. On Kocatepe, which was one of the cornerstones of War of Independence, a monument from the cut stone was established by the Ministry of National Defense in 1953, and a marble scripture with flower relief installed on the monument. The Atatürk Monument was built in 1970. Monument is composed of bronze, and has a height of 7.5 meters including its pedestal and weight of 4 tons. In 1993, upon the landscape layout, the monument opened for visits by the Ministry of Culture. Monument is open 24/7 for the visits and entrance is free of charge...
