About

Buzluk (Ice) Cave is a natural wonder, which is located on the northwest summits of the Sultan Mountains with altitude of 2,519 meters, which is the highest elevation of the Sultan Mountains. Buzluk Cave, which looks like trying to hide back to the fairy chimney look-a-like rock mass, can be reached after descending from the valley, of which the slope may reach 70 degrees sometimes, to Elmas Stream, by climbing the other side of the valley. The entrance of the cave has the width, which may only allow one person to pass at a time, and narrows down in triangular shape as ascending. Cave developed in vertical direction, and is composed of 3 levels reaching to 25 meters. The cool air at the entrance of the cave gets colder as descending in the cave, and 5 meters from the entrance freezing on the surface can be witnessed. In a part of the base of the cave, ices that slouches from walls and covers the rocks like a blanket, and creates icicles can be found. On the other part, millions of pebble size ice crystals creates a scene of diamond treasure. The reason of the creation of ice on the walls of the cave is explained by the shape of the cave, and the weather conditions of its location. The leaking water from the walls in summer, gets colder because of the loss of the heat resulting from the temperature difference between the cool gaps and outside, and strong air circulation induced vaporization, and as a result the leaking water freezes to ice and covers the walls of the cave. According to the rumors, vapor comes out from the cave during winter. However, it is known that snow can be still seen till the end of the June...
