Cendere Bridge is a historical bridge, which is one of the oldest bridges in the world that is still in use.
It is the second most widest arched bridge that Romans constructed. Bridge is 120 meters long and 7 meters wide. It is composed of 92 rock each weighting 10 tones.
According to the scripture in Latin on the bridge, bridge was constructed by the Roman Emperor Septimius Severius (193-211) in the name of his wife and sons. When the bridge was constructed, there were four colinth columns, and the two on the Kahta side were named after Septimius Severus and his wife, and the other two on the Sincik side were named after their two son. However, the column which was named after Geta, one of the sons, was demolished by Caracalla, the other son who killed Geta and wanted to erase everything related to him.
In 1997, the bridge went through a restoration, and vehicles up to 5 tons of weight were allowed to cross the bridge. After the construction of a new bridge 500 meters east, vehicle crossing has been suspended...
