Castle was constructed by the Umayyad Commander Mansur İbn-i Cavana in mid-7th century to withstand the attacks of the Byzantium forces. Castle is known as Hısn-ı Mansur after the commander constructed the castle. This castle was the reason of the establishment of the Adıyaman city. It was restored by the Abbasid Caliphet Harun-ür Reşit in late 8th century. It has reached the present day in racked and ruined structure.  

According to the legend, there was a mansion in the middle of the castle, which can rotate around itself on a shaft. During the attack of the Turkish forces, daughter of the Arabian Commander, who was watching the war from this mansion, sees the Turkish commander and fell in love in with him in first sight. Girl sends a message to the Turkish commander saying that if he accepts her, she would give the keys of castle to him. 

Girl one night flees to the Turkish side, and Turkish Commander receives her and talks to her. During the talk, girl tells the people around her something inside her dress bothers her till she arrived the castle. 

After she takes off her clothes, it is revealed to people around her that a dry leaf was irritating her skin. Turkish commander says to the girl with the rage that "Your father raised you protecting you even from a dry leaf, but you betrayed him anyway. Who knows you betray us how." and orders the execution of the girl. Later, he conquers the castle and city...
